Goodbye my dear Mooch

Finally…Mooch has left me…

I said finally because he had been suffering for months that it hurts me seeing him in pain. It all started with an eye infection, which left untreated for a few weeks. Then his appetite deteriorated, he only pick the kuaci from his bowl of mixed grains.

I brought him to the vet, who gave him antibiotics, eye drop, and multivitamin, but it didn’t help.

I started giving him other food, like carrot, rice, apple, but he didn’t eat more than a few nibbles

After awhile, i began to force-feed him milk, using a syringe, because he became so thin my maid thought i bought a new baby hamster =.=

Despite his eye infection recovering, his overall health deteriorated to bad, i sometimes wish he would quickly die than to suffer this agony. He was very inactive, constantly sleeping in the corner of his cage. He got so anxious everytime i touch him because each time i pick him up i would be wiping his eye mucus and squeezing liquid down his throat

2 weeks ago, i came home early, to find him lying so so weak in his cage. He couldn’t even lie down properly, kept leaning to one side. I picked him up, and i feel only fur and bones. He was still breathing, but all limp and weak. Even in this weak state, his pain prolonged for few hours before he finally died.

The last time, Humpty died so abruptly and i was not ready to face death, that i cried like i lost a person. This time, i was ready and expecting it, so the feeling of loss was not extreme. When Humpty died, i had never experienced the loss of a pet, i dare not touch him. This time, Mooch died in my hand…

I have one old hamster, Dumpty, who’s a fighter. He’s 2.5 years (average hamster life span is 2-3 yrs), he’s so old he’s balding. He has a huge huge growth on his arm that it’s half his body size, which he drags around the heavy weight, and prevents him from climbing and moving actively, but he’s still strong.

Another hamster, Pooch, was given to me together with Mooch, and he’s the healthiest one so far. His fur are shiny and silky, he’s a little chubby (double the size of Mooch), and considerably active.

But no…no more extra hammies for me… I don’t know if i can another 2 deaths, one after another…
