The Day I Turned 21

On the night before i turned 21, i received a mysterious SMS, saying "Wear Dark Top Tomorrow. Highly Recommended. Bring Change of Clothes, also Highly Recommended"

I wouldnt wanna spoil my own surprise, as well as other ppl's hard  work of planning, so i just answered "Who's this? Ok nvm, dun tell me, i'll play along! I like suspense!"

So i continued with my work, and when it was 1 min to midnight, i stoppe d work, and held my handphone, waiting expectingly...

12am came....

and i waited...

and waited....

and waited...

finally, at 12.10am, i got a call....from DARLING!!!

as soon as i answered, i heard the strumming of guitar, and Darling crooning "Can't Help Falling in Love"

*WEEEE~*

he had to go Johor to meet client the next day...he said he was sorry...i felt so sad i couldnt celebrate my bday with him that i couldnt help shedding tears...

i still had a glimmer of hope that Darling was just lying to me, that he actually had a secret plan to surprise me. so i went to bed feeling excited, and i practically jumped out of bed early the next morning, expecting Dear to ding dong my gate

next thing i know, he sent a message, saying he had left house, driving to Johor already. i held on to the hope that he was just lying. after all, it was only 9am. he'll probably stop by later on...

by 12pm, i was all ready to leave for college, and by then i was in my downest moment. it was just so disappointing, i wish it wasnt my birthday

my college frens wanted to belanja me simple lunch before we run our experiment. again i felt excited, thinking it was probably them who sent me that mysterious sms, and probably they had some plans in store.

when i saw them, they were all dressed in white top, and Nat immediately commented "Sel! U're not dressed in white!" cos we had to dress alike to run experiment. omg...my heart plummeted down...not only it wasnt them who sent me that SMS, i am now an extraneous variable by looking diff from my team members!!!

they wished me happy birthday, and gave me a slice of Secret Recipe Choc Mousse...

and they also bought a box of pizza for our lunch.

after that quick but sweet celebration, we went for our experiment. it was a continuous 3hrs experiment, very tiring day. by the last session at 5.30pm, we were all more than impatient to get it over and done with. it was my turn to give instructions in front, and Mel keep pushing me to sit in my place in front, instead of moving around. she said she wants to get things over wor...

so when i almost wanna start the session, suddenly...Darling came in!!! he took a seat as a participant, and i couldnt react bcos im conducting the experiment...

OMG!!!

i totally couldnt keep a straight face anymore. after that super long half an hour, i immediately asked Darling why? how come? what is going on?

my friends began to leave...saying they had errands to run...so Dear took me off. i knew it!!! he didnt actually go Johor!!! and he has plans!!! first thing i did when i reached his car was to flip down the shade/mirror on passenger seat. wee!! a blindfolder was hidden there!!! Dear got so shocked to see his little surprise being exposed before it was time. kekekekkeke

he brought me to mid valley...where we ate a lil, then...Dear got me a pair of shoes! this pink pair of round-toe platform which we saw together a week earlier. he actually had booked it!!! YAY!!! it was super cute!!!

then we walked around abit, and then, Dear led us back to carpark. he was driving off but i dunno where to. it was time for my blindfold...a very cute froggie blindfold!!!

the entire surprise plan was going pretty well, until Dear reversed and bang into this brand new CRV. so he had to go down and negotiate with the driver. i was waiting so anxiously in the car, hoping no aggression will result. i have full faith in Dear to resolve things peacefully, but i cannot be sure the other fella wont get unreasonable and violent. while waiting in the car, suddenly Darling's phone was beeping. i tot it was a phone call, so i immediately took it. then i saw a message from Selena's fren, Mellissa saying "Flash your lights..." (all his messages automatically open ok...i didnt press ANYTHING)

i quickly stop reading further bcos i dont wanna spoil my own surprise, but i already can guess something is up!!! Dear managed to negotiate a reasonable sum with that dude, and we left MV. i was guessing with all my might where we were heading to with my blinded eyes, but i had no idea!!!

after a while....we had reached....where, i dunno, but i knew my college friends were involved!!!

Dear lead me down, and walked, and walked and stopped. it was plain silence, but i could feel people around me. most importantly, i could feel heat...and i heard fire sparks...and i can see flickers of fire...

suddenly, darling told me to take off my shoes!!! immediately i said "i dun wanna walk of charcoals!!!"

i was hoping Mel would burst out laughing, but no sound, except Darling saying "What charcoal!!! U dun trust me ah???"

next up, i felt water under my feet...

and...

blindfold lifted...

SURPRISE!!!!! *spray spray spray*

then, Darling came from behind me and push me down!! *SPLASH*

  

man....i felt so cold my teeth were chattering til they might break into pieces!

after i changed, only i realized what was going on. they were planning a surprise poolside BBQ! and guess where? in Daniel's place in Jalan Kasah. can u believe the creativity these ppl have? kakaka a poolside party in a rented terrace house!!!

there was our BBQ chef, Dan...

there was great delicious food...

there was belly show...

 

there was sweet decoration...

 

there was a pool...

there was a cool cake with internal surprise...

there were great amazing true friends...

 

and of cos, there was Darling..

Dear apparently had planned all these 3 weeks before my birthday. he contacted my friends, and together they came up with this poolside BBQ idea. and my friends had been secretly buying things and preparing materials right underneath my nose, as we had been meeting up for discussions til late night most of the time.

i felt so touched...and i truly am blessed with great friends and an amazing boyfriend. they had wanted to make this birthday a memorable one, and they did, sacrificing so much time and effort and money despite the stress of assignments and work.

as we ate, they could finally tell me all the things they itched to spill to me...how they initially planned things, how sudden changes in schedule wrecked their plans twice, how they tried to cover up their plans in front of me, how they almost exposed the plan, and how blur i was all along.

i also found out what was going on in the morning while i was feeling sad and lonely at home...

these was what happened while Dear detour me to Mid Valley after experiment was over...

 

after the whole amazing dinner, i had another surprise...

guess what? my surprise didnt end there...

i followed Dear back to his house cos his mom told me to stop by, and she gave me these!!!

two new baby hamsters!!!

they were meant to accompany poor old Dumpty, as Humpty passed away on 5th March *sob sob* so Aunty Joice got me these 2 new cuties, which Dear and I named them Poochy and Moochy. i still dunno how to differentiate them, but they got along well with each other as well as Dumpty, and im so so happy!!!

u dun have to tell me, i know i am truly a very lucky girl!!!
