I just came back from Penang and Taiping! Wah very syok makan oh! Best part is...going to the gym frequently must have increased my metabolism, bcos i get hungry every 2-3 hrs, and i dun feel bloated and flabby after every heavy meal.
Me, mom and younger bro went to Penang on Saturday morning. I drove to Taiping to pick grandma, then continue driving to Penang. aiyor so sad...there were so many cars on the road we took freaking long to reach...lagi sad that I can't speed on highway!!! gah!
Anyway, we reached Penang, and checked into hotel. Mom's ex-colleague we recommended that we stay in Red Rock Hotel, price reasonable and location right smack in middle of the city. We were supposed to wait for Mom's cousin to meet us and bring us for good food, but we wouldn't wait, so we crossed the street (McAlister Road) to the nearest restaurant opposite. Bro lagi couldn't wait, immediately order Char Koay Teow ady. Well it didn't taste good, but I told him that he will know how to appreciate the good one later, now that he has a lousy one to compare to. wakakaka
So Mom's cousin, my Aunty Fong, her husband and her daughter came an hour later, and brought us to New Lane. Because there were so many of us (total 7 ppl) we could order many many different types of food. That night, I had asam laksa, otak-otak, char koay teow (this was the best...it was cooked with charcoal fire...the prawns were so SO fresh), fried intestine porridge, popiah, grilled chicken wing.
After pigging out we went to the newly renovated Gurney Plaza to look see look see, then went to Batu Feringghi popular night spot. But aih...so many people so hot so not fun to shop. The price of dvd there is too tempting to resist though >.<
The next morning, two of Mom's ex-colleague brought us out for brunch. We ate along Rangoon Road, eating various noodles and side dishes. It was quite interesting to eat Penang's style of fish head noodle. It looked like KL's one, but the soup was sour and spicy like tomyam. Mom's ex-colleague said that it was due to the northern Thai influence.
After brunch we checked out and went to Queensbay Mall. Also nothing much to shop, cos what is so different in Penang shopping malls that KL shopping malls don't offer, right? The shops were all the same bah. The only difference is there were more Chinese shoppers and Chinese shop assistants, and almost every Chinese speaks Hokkien. lol.
We went to Aunty Fong's house after that, and her poodle, Vincci is so so cute! Again Aunty Fong, her husband and her daughter brought us to makan. This time we went to Batu Lanchang to eat mee rebus, fried radish cake, cendol, popiah, Hokkien mee (aka Prawn Mee in KL), pasembor (aka Indian Rojak in KL). I also got to try nutmeg drink! Chun!
After that heavy and sedap meal I drove us back to Taiping. I felt so sleepy as I drove ok...it was rainy, my stomach feels so satisfied, omg the best time to sleep. But instead I have to drive a long straight road while Mom, Ervin and Grandma slept *sniff*
So last night we spent the night in Taiping, and this morning we pigged out on Taiping food. I had wantan mee for breakfast, and seriously, wantan mee in Taiping is very very different from the wantan mee in KL. the texture of the noodle is very smooth, tangy, springy and sedap! For lunch, we went to this shop with the signboard "PSL Pisang Goreng" The entire shop sells only fried kuih stuff! We bought fried radish cake, pisang goreng, cekodok pisang, and various fried yam. That was lunch...everything fried to perfect crispiness...yum~
After that oily lunch I drove back, and now I'm home, and I had no appetite when I think of what type of KL food to eat for dinner. I really took so long to think of what to order for dinner, and I was more than tempted to completely skip dinner because nothing appeals to my stomach @_@
Anyway, tmr need to go gym liao, but I don't mind working hard to burn off those indulgence, because I'll be gymming with Hunny!! ^^
