Why treat animals like as lower class beings?

In a society as civilized as ours today, is it so hard to provide some care for animals? I wanted to say "love" instead of "care" but I think that would be too much to ask for. So yeah, just a little bit of concern, instead of those heartless cruelty. Is it really so much effort to ask from anybody?

To begin with, they were not given as high the intellect as human beings were given. Then, their very habitat were destroyed by human, thousands and thousands of acres per minute. Not only they don't fight back to claim their lost territory (unlike how human beings would declare war and sacrifice million of lives over a small piece of land), animals are driven out to rubbish dumpsite and living dangerously next to construction sites and highways.

Almost everyday I see dead dogs and cats being run over by cars. Its not even their fault that they had nowhere else to go but wandering by the road side. Now even after they died before their time is due, they die with zero dignity. Again and again they are driven over. Don't wish for proper burial, they would either be ran over so flat that their remains blend with the tar road, or they are removed by DBKL to be disposed as rubbish.

Every time I passed by any of these dead animals, my eyes tear. But that day, I cried and cried until I reached college. Firstly, my hamsters fought with each other, until one bled all over its head. Its eyes were almost scratched out. Then I saw my uncle threatening my dog in front of his children. After that, while driving to college, I saw a dog dead by the road, near my house. It was raining so heavily, and its body was left drenched in the rain. Another 5 minutes of driving, I saw yet another dead dog, lying in such a twisted position I dare not imagine how it was knocked down. Worse still, I dare not imagine how long it had to suffer in pain, feeling the broken bones and internal bleeding, then being ran over cars after cars, before it finally die.

When I was eating in a coffee shop, I saw a dog wondering around the stalls. I wonder how many times it had been splashed with hot water or beaten by the stalls owner for stealing food. I wonder how much food it actually gets despite being surrounded by food. Another time, I drove by a vet near my house, and I saw a stray dog on the road outside the vet. It had a black hole on its body, and it was painfully bending over to lick its wound. I wonder will the vet provide it with free treatment? I wonder will passion for an animal life overcome the passion for money?

To you all who feel that animals deserve more care than they are receiving, please please do not mistreat animals. Do not drive too fast at night, in case stray animals run across the road. Do not shriek and throw stones at a stray dog or cat, which simply brushed your leg while you are eating at a coffee shop. They may be dirty, but they did not choose to be dirty and infected with fleas and diseases. To those who can have own pets in your houses, do rear one, you will be amazed with the joy your pets give you. For a start, if anybody would like to rear a kitten, check out my friend, Mellissa's blog. She saved a mommy cat with its two kittens, and is looking for new owners to take care of them.

Animals are my soft spot, and I have plenty of plans for them, once I earn my own money. Tell me I'm being unrealistic, but at least these future goals ease the pain I feel for these animals.
