Let me tell you a very ridiculous story

Today, I had my 2nd interview for my HELP Foundation lecturer

Yesterday I spent several hours photocopying my certificates, photocopying my I/C, photocopying my SPM cert, photocopying my last pay slip, printing my academic transcripts from online website, printing an extra copy of my resume, attaching my passport picture at the most perfect angle.

I’ve separated my documents carefully too. A folder with all my original certs, dating as far back as primary school. Then another envelope containing copies of academic transcripts, I/C and certs that HR Dept had requested. Then I’ve also found a pweety notebook to take down notes

This morning I woke up extra early (6.50am) to prepare answers for potential interview questions. I wrote essays to questions like:

  • Tell me something about yourself
  • Why should we hire you?
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • What are your future plans?

Then I gave myself one whole hour to dress up, deciding which formal attire look good yet appropriate. Applying eye makeup, taking breakfast, etc. Then, I left house more than an hour earlier, to allocate sufficient time for traffic jam, parking problem, and freshening up before interview appointment at 10.30am

As i drove, I felt so happy that the traffic was clear. I reached HELP’s main block parking, and was happy to see vacant parking spot, although I had to park at the very end of the lot. I saw the time, and I was 30 mins early. Perfect, I can take a slow walk to the main entrance, and have time to freshen up in the bathroom, and still present myself 15 mins early. A very good sign of punctuality. It’s always better to be early and wait for the boss, than to let the boss wait for me, a mere chiku

I got out of my car, and open the back door to gather my things

OHHHHH EMMMMM GEEEEEE…

@#$^%&*()*(&%^%#@#%*

Oh My Effing Gawshhhhhh

I left ALL my documents at home!

I can’t effing believe it!

I don’t even have a notebook with me!

And I was already given verbal and written reminder by HR Dept to bring those documents!

Oh my gawd…I’ve reached this stage of interview, and I’m gonna screw up?

I’m not gonna be meeting Head of Matriculation Centre or present mock lecture in front of my ex-lecturers. I was gonna be meeting the SENIOR MANAGEMENT!!! I was meeting the Senior Vice President of HELP UNIVERSITY COLLEGE!!!

I called Darling…he was rational…he said call the HR Dept to check if I can postpone the meeting. With my shaking hands, I called, and the lady said “I’m sorry, Dr Khong has another appointment at 11am. I’m afraid it’s not possible to postpone the interview. I guess you just have to go in and explain yourself”

SHITE

So I went in

Thankfully, I met Vincent, the Manager at HMC. I told him that I forgot to bring all my certs, he said “Never mind la, it’ll be OK wan la. Dr Khong is a very nice guy.” I wanted to at least photostat my I/C and reprint my resume, but Vincent insisted that it’s OK. Phew…well if he says so…

So I met Dr Khong…

Meeting only lasted 10 mins. Or less. =.=

Dr Khong and another HR lady asked me things like “So, are you the oldest child? Oh…so how is it like being the middle child? You mentioned that your mom works in a bank, which bank is she working in? Which company is your brother working in? What about your other brother?”

I was prepared for more serious questions wei!

Ok la, they did ask me “So what do you think of HMC, as compared to Psych Dept?” and “So, what are your plans, Selena? Are you gonna be an academician until the end of your life?'”

But the most stupid moment (besides the whole forgetfulness part) was when they asked me “So do you have any questions?”

I have soooo many! I have even prepared a list of questions to ask, which I left it at home too. But I couldn’t remember! And, I don’t know if it was appropriate to ask questions like “What will the salary be? What are the employees’ benefits? What is my job scope like” because they haven’t tell me that I’m hired

I didn’t even remember to ask “So when will I know of the results?”

I was so worked up over my forgetfulness that everything I’ve prepared also jumped out of my brain and stayed at home with my documents!

I went to the gym to work off my frustration. Self-hatred and frustration must be very good fuel to my body, because I ran on the threadmill non stop for 5km (30mins), then I climbed uphill for another 20 mins. In total, I worked out 50 mins nonstop and burnt 350 cals

When I got home and entered my room…

Forgotten documents 004

Ah Babi Bedebah!!!!
