you can make a difference

u complain that life's not fair. u think u have it too tough on yourself. u feel that all life complications always fall on your path. but check yourself out....look yourself in the mirror...do u have hair on your head? do u need to watch your diet in order to survive, rather than watching your diet for losing weight's sake? are u able to go out wherever u wanna go, with your two feet, rather than stranded in bed? do u have the energy to walk up 2 flight of stairs without the risk of collapsing halfway?

u dun even need to wake up every morning just to feel thankful u can open your eyes to see a new day. u dun need to pray hard before sleeping that u'll receive good news about the findings of new medication to give u new hope. u dun have to worry about falling in love for fear of not able to able to get married/have family

can u now imagine how it feels to be a patient with cancer? and the scariest thing is....the risk of developing cancer is increasing as the world modernized. u feel proud of this hi-tech world, but its also the new toxins and chemicals released that changed the structure of our cells hence abnormal growth of cancerous cells. there is really no direct way to curb this disease as scientists are yet to find the exact cause of cancer

if u feel that it is unfair for these ppl to live such a life, and u want to be able to do something to give them hope to live a brighter life, why not contribute to the Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation? the only way to relieve these patients, as well as to prevent more ppl from developing cancer, is through research. find out the cause of the problem, find out the most effective way to treat this illness, find out ways to prevent cancerous cells from spreading, find out ways to build immunity against cancer. the findings of this Institute will benefit u too. nobody is free from the risk of cancer!

let me paste a touching story from http://www.terryfoxrunkl.org/:

"Terry Fox was 18 years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer. His right leg was amputated above the knee. Whilst in hospital, Terry was so moved by the suffering of cancer patients, particularly children, that he resolved to run across Canada (a distance of 8,500 kilometers) to raise money for cancer research. He called his journey the “Marathon of Hope”.

Terry Fox, an amputee, ran a marathon (42 kilometers) a day for 143 consecutive days - a total distance of 5,373 kilometers. At that stage, Terry was forced to abandon his run as the cancer spread to his lungs. Terry Fox died at the tender age of 21. Before he died, he knew that a fund-raising event would be held each year, with the same objectives as the Marathon of Hope - to help find a cure for cancer."

Terry Fox Run 2007 will be held this Sunday, 4th November 2007 in KL Lake Garden (Tmn Tasik Perdana). Participants should gather at 8.30am, and flag off at 9am. i heard that participation fee is rm25 (inclusive of t-shirt), but please confirm price from the website http://www.terryfoxrunkl.org/.

rm25 is not sufficient to pay for any scientific studies, so they'll need alot ALOT of rm25's. when facing a widespread problem like this, we first need social awareness. do not be ignorant of problems in this world, do not disregard unfortunate ppl. with this awareness, realise that u are able to make a difference, thru small personal contributions as well as spreading the awareness u've gained.

i will be running this Sunday. hope to see you there!
