Back from Penang!

wally wally whoalar holla! im back from Penang peeps!!! keke a rounder, fatter Sel is back from her food hunting trip! keke naw la, i didnt put on weight! but yessie...this whole trip was just travelling around Penang Island in search of good food, as recommended from our own native Penangite, Tan Hua Fu! let me give u full details bout my trip..! though many ppl complain my posts are too lengthy...i'll describe my 3 days itinerary...

1st day (tues 13th dec)
Dear picked me and we went to pick our tour guide aka my Penangite college mate, Hua Fu, from Imbi monorail station. he was LATE!!! i gave him wake up call, yet he was L-A-T-E!!! >.<>. oopsies...sorry guys! never felt so happy to see the North-South highway man!

Dear's passengers, Ann, YeeHua & Hua Fu

we took almost 6hrs cos we got lost, and took many R&R stops. we started our eating spree before reaching Penang. keke. finally got to our apartment, Sri Sayang Resort. checked in, unpack a lil, then...first place we visited in Penang was...car service centre! lolz...Edwin's car air-con wasn't working, so best to repair it or his passengers (i.e. LC, Den & Lawrence) will be sweating for 3days. also to avoid those crazy ppl from fighting to get into Dear's car =P it was almost 4pm, and we havent had proper lunch. yet Penang ppl are horrible! they refused to sell us food! they were all CLOSED!!! HF wanted to bring us to Pulau Tikus for good Sar Hor Fun, mee goreng, etc, but it was closed. other shops was ALSO closed. end up in some coffee shop he hasnt tried before. we had Pasembor and Hokkien Lam mee. in KL, there's either Hokkien mee @ Prawn mee, or Lam mee. Hokkien Lam mee sure tasted different..

my pasembor tasted so-so la...

then guess what? dah la we have to park and eat in some unknown shop, after eating we found this on Dear's wind screen:

Summon from Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang!

bloody hell! we got a saman on our first day in Penang! lolz...Dear is quite proud of it...he wanna proudly announced to everyone that he has summons from all over malaysia =.=" but really, what are the possibilities of getting a summon wei? arent we extremely lucky? lol!

then went to Gurney Plaza to shop for BBQ the next night. we KL-ians really looked down on Penang man...we were shocked to see Fitness First and Cold Storage and GSC in Penang! lol. damn mean. damn snobz wei. HF left, and we were on our own. we went to check out Batu Feringghi Pasar Malam, but it began to drizzle after we walked a few mins, so didnt get to buy dirt cheap pirated DVDs =(

2nd day

we woke up at 7am ok!!! we're on a holiday yet we woke up bloody early! all for the sake of food....cos we went for Dim Sum at Zim Sum! it was Restaurant Zim Sum ok...and it was filled with old men and old ladydees. darn we felt so out of place! but the food was good...so many variety, and damn bloody cheap! each person pay less than rm8!!!

the tourist gang from left: Edwin, LC, Lawrence, Deniece, Ann, YH, Sel & EV

we went to Him Heang to buy Tau Shar Piah. i bought so many packets of nutmeg!!! yum..my favourite!!! i miss it!!! and NOBODY seems to know how to appreciate this delicacy! even Dear has to LEARN to like it *sob sob* oh well, i know i have unique taste! =P after buying biscuits, we went to Komtar to pay our lucky summon. it was rm15, and got discounted to rm10. keke. it wasnt expensive, but if we had remembered to put coins into the parking meter, we could have paid rm0.50 instead of rm10!

next stop was Kek Lok Si temple. but the main reason being there wasnt to sight-see, it was to eat Assam Laksa! oh well, since we were there, we took a tour la. need to digest our heavy breakfast anyway. saw many huge tortoises! they stank, and the water was dirty, but they managed to grow damn big!

we took the "cable car" up to the newly-built Kuan Yin statue. apparently just completed this year. cool. but we weren't that interested in all these sight-seeing. all of us were just awaiting for FOOD! HF brought us down this back alley...which feels like KL's Petaling Street buried underground. really wonder how anyone knows it existed. even more amazed by how their business managed to survive when tourists dunno they exist. it was an EXTREMELY HOT day...sun was burning all the way. and we had spicy assam laksa in the marketplace. but it was GOOD! *slurp*

then we went to Penang Road to eat cendol. it really was GOOD!!! *salivating* i felt like taking 2nd helping, but nvm, save my stomach cos we went for Char Koay Teow next! so hard to find this super expensive but super good Fried Koay Teow in Lorong Selamat. expensive compared to other Penang food la. rm 5.50 for one plate. but damn nice with big fat prawns.

we went back apartment, took some rest, then went for dinner at Faces Steak Garden. after all those hawker stall centres, Western meal seemed like a nice change. this place really reminded me of KL's Rendevous Steak Garden. my Fish & Chip was nothing special, but Dear's Chicken Chop was good! and the price was damn cheap. rm5.90 for a chicken chop. rm3.90 for a huge glass of fruit juice.

after dinner we had some secret agenda up our sleeves. we wanted to "celebrate" Yee Hua's birthday. i felt bad i didnt get to join her on the 9th, so planned a little something for her. keke. we bought her a cake....and colored her hair with party streamers! keke at first everyone was just sitting down, watching TV. then everyone was running around trying to attack YH! lol hope u like our surprise, Yee Hua!!!

3rd day

next morning we woke up late...packed up and checked out. didnt wanna trouble Hua Fu so we went searching for good food using Lai Cheng's little food guide. went round and round before finding the place: Rest. Kwai Lock, opposite Pulau Tikus police station. supposed to have good Shar Hor Fun, Curry mee and Chee Cheong Fun, but they were ALL CLOSED! damn! it was only 1pm! what's with Penang people wei? their bedtime is at 12pm noon ah? ish! got business also dun want! luckily we get to eat this Indian Mee Goreng behind this restaurant, which was also recommended in LC's food guide. not bad at all!

Ann, YH and I came to Penang during form 5 and we ate this super good Coconut milk ice-cream in this Siamese temple. we asked Hua Fu but he had no idea what temple we meant. when we were looking for this Pulau Tikus restaurant, we accidentally found the temple! damn...of cos we wont miss the chance! we've been missing it for 2yrs! and the ironic thing is...we found the place on the day we were on our own without Hua Fu's help. keke. guess we're fated to introduce this super good super rare ice cream to Den, Lawrence, LC, Edwin & EV before we go back to KL! ^_^

finally, we are satisfied. we've accomplished our quest. we've satisfied our taste buds. we can leave for KL with a contented tummy. we stopped at Tapah R&R cos LC wanna buy pomelos, and i wanna eat pink guava! in the end, we took a long break enjoying ice-cream in Baskin Robbins ^o^ suddenly the girls came up with dinner plans....wanted to stop by in Kuala Selangor for dinner. but me daddy dun allow, and Dear has family dinner. so Ann and Yee Hua transferred from Dear's car to Edwin's car. keke...damn funny to see Deniece, Lawrence, Soo Ann and Yee Hua squashed up in the back seat. even more funny to see Edwin's expression when he pointed out how low his suspension sunk. whoa...wish them all the best for the next few hrs of journey!

their dinner plan changed, but everyone got back safely, and that was most important. im so so glad this trip worked out. im so glad everyone was very cooperative. unplanned trips like these can create conflict if different people insist on different plans. but as far as i've noticed, everyone got along well (Den & Ann got along TOO WELL, they were CRAZY! haha!) and noone held any grudges (hopefully...). really thankful to Hua Fu for his GREAT HOSPITALITY. he proved that Penangites are really helpful people!despite their fantastic driving skills! hehe!

first time i met Lawrence, but glad he didnt feel left out. first time Dear met Deniece, Ann & Lawrence, but glad they all clicked too. i am so glad i got to go on my first unchaperoned holiday with darling and high school besties. we have really grown up. last time we go on school trips with teachers and travel on school bus. we only follow teacher's itinerary. parents weren't supposed to know if any of us have boyfriends. now, we drive on our own. we search for food in an unknown territory. and we have parents' full support being away with our boyfriends. in fact, i believe parents feel more secure knowing there are guys to take care of us girls. time had passed, we had grown, but our friendship will not fade. we have only moved on to another level of friendship...a higher level of freedom...a more mature level of love. love all of you who made this trip so unforgetable!
