species conserver, extinction preventer

enough of the emo-ness. now, lets talk about my turtle conservation trip to ma' daerah!

was tempted to just write: for details on my trip, check out NatC's blog

but nah...then u wouldnt get a taste of my narration, my feelings

so here goes...

on friday, 20th july, Dear's daddy, Uncle Roger, dropped us both at Bkt Jalil LRT station.

In the train...

Dear's ex-uni mate, Jeremy, joined me, Dear, Nat, Dan, Jon, Hua Fu and Raymond

all sleeping in the bus...bus ride was 10.30 til 4.30pm...

finally reached! road into sanctuary is really horrible. its meant to keep unauthorized visitors away. i feel pain everytime the bottom of the car scratched those huge rocks...

reached our long house, our accomodation for 2 nights. GAYmond found his new best-fren...

first agenda was to watch new hatchlings...

we each get to touch them. oh so adorable!!!

watching them run clumsily towards the sea...is an amazing feeling...
this is our room...very basic place...

at night, we patroled by the beach for turtle landings. we waited by the beach since 10pm, it was pitch dark except lighting by the moonlight, and not allowed to on torchlight in case we scare turtles away. finally sighted a turtle coming up to build the nest. had to be VERY quiet as she digs her hole. once she starts laying, we could all go forward and watch every single egg being layed. talk about invasion of privacy. lol. the entire process takes up about 3hrs! she finally gets back to the sea...and we could use flash camera and torchlight...

next morning was free and easy! so we had a blast of a time by the beach. gosh, its really so clean, and water so clear, bcos its a private beach, on the process of being gazetted as reserved property...

so burnt after 3hrs in the sun! but wow, so relaxing! and romantic!

after that we went to dig up leftovers in nests that had hatched. the rangers collect the eggs from the turtle as soon as she layed, and buried them back in the hatchery, observing them til it hatched. each turtle can lay between 80-120 eggs, but not all of them hatch. so we had to dig them out, throw away the empty shells, and open up those unhatched eggs...

the smell of rotted eggs were revolting. and all the man-made nests thatwe dug up had unhatched eggs. some of the unhatched eggs had half-formed embryo inside, but there was one embryo which was still alive...gosh...i admire the strength of that unborn turtle for its will to survive, but also felt so heartbroken knowing it will never see the world...

after dealing with turtle eggs, we had to plant a tree to represent our group's presence in this sanctuary...

after burning my skin under the sun, Darling surprise me with a mask!

next morning we woke up at 6.30 to catch sun rise. unfortunately it rained in the middle of the night, so sky was too cloudy to see the sun. the scenery was still beautiful...standing there with my Darling...nothing could feel better! well, except more sleep....lol check out our eyes!

well, thats the end of our 3days. time to pack up and say goodbye...

taking the train home...

that was really an amazing trip. eye-opening, totally different experience. thanks dear for organizing it! *big loving grateful muakz!*

time to sleep and back into the rat race tmr. goodnight!!!
